Armenian Women Say They Belong in a Revolution Not the Kitchen
A group of Armenian women have joined the large-scale protest rallies in the country, saying they belong in the revolution, not the kitchen.
The women came to Yerevan from all parts of the country, demanding the resignation of the government and expressing solidarity to the revolution.
The main slogans of the demonstrating women were “Women against the Regime” and “We are the Power.”
The majority of the women are reported to be young, and are calling on others to leave their homes for some time and join the protesters.
Protest rallies started in Armenia on April 13 with demonstrators demanding the resignation of PM Serzh Sargsyan, the former president of the country. After 10 day unrest in Armenia, Sargsyan resigned. The protesters resumed rallies on April 25, asking for the resignation of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) government.
The opposition has nominated their leader Nikol Pashinyan as the candidate for the PM’s post.
“The revolution continues and there will be no political trade,” Pashinyan stated at Thursday's evening rally.
According to him, today the rally will be held not in Yerevan, but in Gyumri. He noted that all the actions in Yerevan will be suspended to "give activists a rest, but if they want, they can join us and go to Gyumri where the rally will begin at 18:00."
A protest rally will also be held in Vanadzor at 15:00 on April 28 and in Yerevan on April 29 and 30 and May 1.
