Breakaway Ossetia Closes "Border" for 4 Days

In connection to the Victory Day which commemorates the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War on May 9, de facto authorities of Georgia’s Russian-backed South Ossetia decided to close the “border” with Georgia for 4 days.

“Due to the solemn celebrations dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, from May 7, 8 PM to May 10, 8 AM, the border points will not function,” the de facto region stated.

Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikhail Janelidze, commented on the fact, saying the Government of Georgia is doing its best to cancel the restrictions as soon as possible.

“This is another barrier that prevents contact between people and this is a grave result of the occupation and occupation line against which the entire international community is united. We will use all peaceful levers, tools and international formats in order to cancel the restrictions as soon as possible," the Minister stated.
