Tbilisi to Host International Book Fair
From May 31 to June 3, 2018, Tbilisi will host the 20th International Book Fair, organized by the Association of Book Publishers and Booksellers of Georgia.
The festival takes places in the 6th and 11th pavilions of Expo Georgia on Tsereteli Avenue. The 6th pavilion will feature books for young readers, while in the 11th pavilion all kinds of books will be presented.
Around 70 participants have registered for the festival this year, which will offer a wide variety of books to visitors.
The organizers stated that in the framework of the Fair, they will hold about 100 different literature-related events, such as professional workshops, public readings, and the presentation of new books, along with meetings with authors and discussions.
In addition, top bloggers will deliver speeches and a carnival-style performance will also take place.
This year the Tbilisi International Book Fair focus country is Germany. For the first time in the history of the festival, the Frankfurt Book Fair will visit the country with its delegation and take part in the events in Tbilisi.
The festival will host the organizers of the Frankfurt Book Fair, German publishers and three contemporary authors - Ulla Lenze, Olga Griaznova and Katya Petrovskaya, who will hold various events and meet with readers. The official opening of the festival will be attended by Juergen Boss, President of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
With the support of the publishing company Intellect, in cooperation with the Association of Book Publishers and Booksellers of Georgia, famous modern Russian writer and dramatist Vladimir Sorokin, Norwegian writer, journalist and editor of the famous Norwegian publisher Capelen Damm - Bernhard Mohr, and Nino Kharatishvili, well-known Georgian writer living in Germany, will be in Tbilisi to meet with readers.
A special surprise awaits teenagers too. They will be able to meet one of their favorite writers, the author of the popular new young adult book Geek Girl, Holly Smale, who was invited to Tbilisi by publisher Palitra L.
One more piece of news from this year’s festival is that on June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Pavilion 11, 25 Georgian actors of screen and stage will present books to readers and hold public discussions.
The financial supporters of the festival are the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, the reserve fund of the President of Georgia, and Tbilisi Municipality City Hall, while the project Actors for Literature is supported by "Silknet.”
