Ruling Party Chair: Chief Prosecutor’s Resignation Is New Standard
Billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party and ex-Prime Minister, has commented on the resignation of the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, Irakli Shotadze.
Ivanishvili claims Shotadze’s resignation is “a completely new standard, which was the main goal of the 2012 public revolution.”
The GD Chair says he knows Shotadze and believes in his professionalism and good faith.
“I have always believed that Irakli and his office were doing everything for all offenders to be held accountable before the law,” he said, explaining that the recent development over the murder case of teenagers created doubts about the investigation.
“This fact was instantly followed by the ultra-decent step inspired with higher political and moral responsibility. Irakli Shotadze’s resignation is a completely new standard, which was the main goal of the 2012 public revolution. I want to once again offer my condolences to the families of the victims and express my conviction that justice will be executed," the statement of Ivanishvili reads.
