Georgian President Pays Visit to Estonia
President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, First Lady, Maka Chichua and the Georgian Delegation are paying an official visit to Estonia to take part in the festivities dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Estonia’s independence.
Within the framework of the visit, Margvelashvili met the President of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid and thanked her for Estonia’s unwavering support for Georgia.
The presidents highlighted that 2018 is a historic year for Georgia and Estonia as the both countries mark the 100th anniversary of independence.
The meeting focused on Georgia-Estonia special friendly relations. Following the face-to-face meeting, the presidents held a broad meeting along with state delegations. The second meeting focused on regional security challenges, outcomes of the Russian occupation, non-recognition policy of Georgia’s occupied territories and Estonia’s support in this regard.
The sides talked about Georgia’s preparatory activities for the upcoming NATO Summit. President Kaljulaid once again underlined her support for Georgia, noting she always raises the issue of Georgia's territorial integrity at all international fora. According to President Margvelashvili, Georgia highly appreciates Estonia's firm support for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and democratic development.
The parties also discussed the importance of advancing defense cooperation. They have underscored the significance of the Black Sea region in terms of Euro-Atlantic security and Georgia’s role in strengthening security in the region.

Moreover, Margvelashvili held a meeting with Jüri Ratas, Prime Minister of Estonia. The President congratulated Jüri Ratas on the centennial of Estonia’s independence.
Conversation at the meeting focused on regional security challenges, Georgia’s occupation, non-recognition policy and prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation. Georgian party has underlined Estonia’s special support for Georgia’s democratic development, European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Jüri Ratas mentioned active sectoral cooperation between Estonia and Georgia. President Margvelashvili has underscored the importance of learning from Estonia’s experience in tax system, implementation of e-governance and cyber security.
The importance of advancing economic and trade relations between the two countries and Estonia's support for Georgian institutions to reach EU standards was underlined.
Furthermore, the Georgian delegation expressed readiness to continue cooperation within the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement (DCFTA) with the European Union.
