Georgian President Congratulates Turkey’s Erdogan on Re-election

The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili  has sent a letter of congratulations to the Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan who won sweeping new executive powers in Sunday’s elections--which also saw his Islamist-rooted AK Party and its nationalist allies secure a majority in parliament.

“It is my pleasure to convey to You my most sincere congratulations on the occasion of Your re-election as the President of the Republic of Turkey,” Margvelashvili’s statement to Erdogan reads.

Georgian President noted that the Turkish people voted for their country`s further development, peace, security and stability to ensure welfare and success.

“Throughout recent period, we have witnessed Your country's favorable advancement in political, economic and cultural terms. I remain confident that under Your leadership the Republic of Turkey will achieve new heights for its prosperous development,” Margvelashvili addressed his counterpart.

He also underlined that Georgia and the Republic of Turkey enjoy a centuries-old friendship, strong cultural ties and successful cooperation.

“Our nations have always been standing together for further achievements and welfare. Having strong partnership, I remain confident that our joint efforts through furthering and enhancing cooperation will lead to the successful achievements for the mutual benefit of our two nations,” the statement reads. 

“Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration along with my best wishes for happiness, health and greater success in all Your important endeavors for peace and prosperity of the friendly Turkish people,” the official congratulatory letter reads.
