Two Georgian Border Guards Detained by Russians
Two Georgian border guards who crossed the Georgia-Russia border, have been arrested and will be transferred back to Georgia on June 29.
The statement was made by Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) on June 28.
The Ministry says that two days ago, two border guards of the Lagodekhi Division of the Border Police of Georgia arrived in the Dagestan section of the State Border of Georgia-Russian Federation to open another temporary summer checkpoint according to the planned task.
“For some time, there was no communication with the border guards and we began a search operation for them. At the same time, the Georgian Interior Ministry's Border Police Department revealed that the border guards were on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the MIA reports, adding as a result of the agreement reached between the sides, the Georgian border guards will be returned home later today.
