Lithuanian Parliament Adopts Resolution Supporting Georgia
Lithuanian media reports that the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) has adopted a resolution in support of Georgia.
The document was supported by 82 MPs and is connected to the 10th year of occupation of Georgian territories Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
In the resolution, the Seimas echoes the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on 14 June regarding the occupied territories of Georgia.
The document expresses strong support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, it also underlines that Russia has not yet fulfilled its obligations undertaken under the 2008 ceasefire agreement, signed after Georgia-Russia military conflict in August.
“In order to ensure peace and stability, Russia must withdrew its troops from occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia and restore Georgia's jurisdiction in these regions,” the document reads, adding it is necessary to ensure the safe return of refugees and internally displaced persons and respect human rights in these regions.
The resolution also supports the reforms carried out by Georgia and also its European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and calls upon the international community to focus on Georgia's territorial integrity and European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
