Russia’s Zakharova: Georgia's Integration to NATO to Have Its Consequences

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that if Georgia becomes a NATO member, it will be followed by proper steps by Russia.

"Accession of the countries that are not members of NATO is impossible not to affect the overall security of the European continent, and of course there will be consequences. This is not just about Georgia," Zakharova said without specifying any further details.

Georgia’s State Minister Designate for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, stated there is nothing new in Zakharova’s approach.

“Georgia has been proving in recent years that neither the development course nor any policy is directed against anyone,” she said.

The Minister added Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration is aimed at ensuring the country has an “uninterrupted development, safe environment, and the possibility of building democratic institutions and economic welfare.”
