Georgian President Meets MEP Andrejs Mamikins
Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili has hosted the Rapporteur of the Foreign Relations Committee of the European Parliament, Andrejs Mamikins, who arrived in Tbilisi on July 23 to prepare the report on the European Union Association Agreement implementation by Georgia.
The important issues in the agenda of Georgia-EU relations, the progress achieved by Georgia in the direction of EU integration, and the steps that should be taken to further intensify these relations were the key topics of the meeting.
Security issues were also discussed, and the President of Georgia provided the MEP with detailed information about the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia - Abkhazia and South Ossetia - and the Russian annexation policy.
Margvelashvili stressed he condemns Syria's recognition of Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions as independent states.
The sides also discussed the pre-election environment in Georgia, as the country will elect a new president in late October.
Before meeting the President, the MEP met the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Tamar Khulordava.
Mamikins will also meet with the parliamentary political groups, executive authority, non-parliamentary opposition, Public Defender and civil society.
