Angela Merkel to Visit Georgia
The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Angela Merkel has said she will pay an official visit to Georgia. However, the exact date of her arrival remains unknown.
The issue was discussed at the meeting of Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia, and Heike Renate Peitsch, Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of Germany to Georgia, on July 31.
Bilateral relations between the two countries, including trade and economic links, increasing investments from Germany to Georgia, the significance of education in ensuring sustainable economic growth and development, and Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration agenda were the key issues discussed by the parties.
In addition, discussions related to the measures intended by the Government of Georgia for the facilitation of small and medium enterprises (SME), aimed at job creation and poverty eradication. The German diplomat praised the environmental vision of the Prime Minister of Georgia on the Green Economy.
Bakhtadze stated that Germany plays a significant role in the institutional building of the country.
The officials also spoke about the upcoming presidential elections. The PM noted that the Georgian government pledges to ensure a free, fair and transparent environment once more, in line with the high standards of democracy.
Moreover, Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) commented on Merkel’s future visit to Georgia, saying the exchange of high-level visits is one of the priorities in terms of bilateral cooperation with Germany.
“At this stage, we cannot name the concrete date when the German Chancellor plans to visit Georgia,” the MFA stated.
