Georgian President Names Election Date

The President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, has named presidential election date – October 28.

He stated the decision was made in agreement with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mamuka Bakhtadze.

Within 10 days, the President's legal act needs to be approved by Parliament, after which it will enter into force following the Prime Minister's signature.

Candidates participating in the elections will not be able to start their pre-election campaigns until 60 days prior to the election day, as per the Eclection Code which was modified last July. Prior to that law, the pre-election campaign and related procedures started immediately following publication of the legal act issued for the appointment of elections.
