Large Cache of Heroin Seized on the Georgia-Azerbaijan Border
The Georgian Border Police report that 3.5 kg of drugs were seized yesterday on the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan. Police arrested one person, a citizen of Georgia born in 1990 with the initials R.M., who was carrying 1.119 kg of heroin and 1.1935 kg of methamphetamine, along with other substances. The arrested person faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
The suspect has a number of prior convictions and is currently on parole. He was charged with illegal border crossing from Azerbaijan into Georgia and attempting to smuggle a large quantity of drugs into the country.
An investigation is ongoing under Article 244 Section I and the Article 260 Section IV of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
