UK State Minister Releases Video Address in Support of Georgia
The UK State Minister Sir Alan Duncan has released a video address in connection with the 10th anniversary of Georgia-Russia War of 2008.
“Today, we commemorate with sadness the 10th anniversary of the Russian-Georgian conflict of August 2008. We mourn the lives of the lost and the displacement of thousands of people, who are still unable to return to their homes,” Sir Alan stated.
He said it is a tragedy that Georgia remains divided. We are deeply concerned over the human rights situation in the regions of Georgia, which are not under control of the government.
“The United Kingdom will continue to support resolutely Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. We call on all parties to engage constructively in the Geneva international discussions. We also support Georgia’s new peace initiative 'Step to a Better Future,'” he added.
The UK Ambassador to Georgia, Justin McKanzie Smith, also released a statement, saying the UK looks forward to the day when Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are restored.
"We strongly support efforts to allow all the people of Georgia to live in peace and to realise their hopes and ambitions for the future," McKanzie tweeted.
