PM: Russian Propaganda Is a Challenge for European Civilization
Georgian Prime Minister, Mamuka Bakhtadze says that the Russian propaganda is a challenge not only for Georgia but for the west and European civilization as a whole.
“We should definitely have an effective mechanism to prevent any kind of propaganda that may have a negative impact on the population of Georgia,” the PM stated.
According to Bakhtadze, Georgian society made its decision a long time ago: the path to the European family.
“This is not just a political and geopolitical decision, it is our choice that Georgia should return to the European family. We should definitely have an effective mechanism to prevent any kind of propaganda but I am sure that the Georgian people will not be influenced," Bakhtadze said.
The media forum funded by the Russian Presidential Grants Foundation and organized by two Russian NGOs North-South Center and Press Club Unity, together with the Tbilisi-based news agency Georgia and the World, takes place in Tbilisi on September 5-7.
The event was condemned by a number of NGOs and citizens of Georgia, who said Russian propaganda is unacceptable in the country.
In addition, parliamentary minority European Georgia’s introduced their initiative to introduce legislative measures on restricting Russian propaganda and “soft power” in the country.
The Russian Federation occupied Georgia’s two breakaway regions – Abkhazia and South Ossetia after the August 2008 war.
