Patrol Police to Check Drivers for Marijuana Use

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) recently announced that its patrol police officers will begin checking drivers specifically for the use of marijuana using a special test kit.

The MIA reportedly plans to order test kits from Germany, similar to the kits currently used to test for alcohol use.

After a decision by the Constitutional Court in August that legalized the consumption of marijuana in Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been working to prepare legislative amendments to regulate the consumption, sale, and cultivation of marijuana. Criminal penalties will be imposed for driving under the influence of marijuana.
