Georgian Foreign Minister Meets SICA Secretary General

Within the framework of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Central American Integration System (SICA), Vinicio Cerezo.

According to the SICA Secretary General, the Organization is fully aware of Georgia’s achievements and is closely interested in developing co-operation with Georgia. It was highlighted that the Organization’s objectives and priorities (democratic development, security, social integration) are fully in line with Georgia’s ongoing and already implemented reforms.

The SICA Secretary General expressed the willingness of the organization and its member states to learn from Georgia’s experience in such fields as the reforming of state institutions, improvement of public services, fight against corruption, electronic government, etc.

Discussions also focused on Georgia’s co-operation with the Central American countries.The Georgian delegation reaffirmed the readiness to develop relations and multilateral dialogue with the countries of the region, to which attests the introduction of visa-free travel with a number of member states of the Organization.

The Minister brought to the attention of the SICA Secretary General Georgia’s Foreign Policy agenda. Special accent was placed on the regional role of Georgia as a trade, transit and energy hub, and the good practice of free trade regime and additional opportunities.
