Bruno Balvanera New EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that Bruno Balvanera will be the new Managing Director for Central Asia, starting from November 15. He will be responsible for one of the Bank’s most geographically diverse regions, which includes Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The Bank currently has approximately $13.5 billion in commitments in Central Asia.
“I am very excited to take on this new job and to build on the successful work of my predecessor. The EBRD has attractive responses to some of the most pressing issues facing Central Asia such as the diversification of energy resources and the strengthening of the private sector. At the same time, the countries’ efforts to strengthen their integration in the global economy needs further support. With our strong network of local offices we will continue working towards these goals,” said Balvanera.
Originally from Mexico, Balvanera will be based in Astana. He was worked for the EBRD since 1996 and is currently serving as Director for Belarus, the Caucasus and Moldova, based in Tbilisi.
