Soviet Style, Anti-Vashadze Posters Placed in Gori
Posters against the presidential candidate of the United National Movement (UNM) Grigol Vashadze have been placed in the streets of Gori, a small town in Central Georgia, which is the homeland of Joseph Stalin, and which fell under the Russian attack during the August 2008 war. The posters were also seen in the streets of Tbilisi earlier this month.
In the posters which are in the Soviet propaganda style, Grigol Vashadze is depicted with Vladimir Putin. Agitation sheets were also attached near the Stalin museum and in the central streets of Gori.
Similar posters were placed in all four municipalities of the Shida Kartli region.
Gori regional organization of the United Opposition blames the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party. The organization representatives claim that the GD-supported presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili has a very low rating in Gori, thus the “GD decided to somehow influence the population with the help of these posters.”
“This activity was planned by Gori Governor and the GD team. They are panicking that Zurabishvili has so few supporters in the town,” Badri Basishvili, head of the Shida Kartli organization of the United Opposition stated.
