Ivanishvili Says Saakashvili Bombed Georgians

The founder and Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, Prime Minister of the country in 2012-2013, claims the ex-President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, is the one to be blamed for the 2008 Georgia-Russia war.

"Saakashvili bombed his own population. He could have prevented the war and not made Russia’s centuries-old dream come true. In 2008, the government committed an irremediable mistake,” Ivanishvili told three Georgian journalists, whom he chose to ask him questions.

The ex-PM stated that then ruling party United National Movement could have prevented the war but did not do so.

Ivanishvili says he shares the position of the presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili, supported by the GD, who stated several times that Georgia started the war.

“Zurabishvili’s interpretations are absolutely correct. Saakashvili lead the Russian army in Georgia,” GD head stressed.
