Georgian MF Meets Speaker of Seimas
Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani met with the Speaker of the Seimas, Viktoras Pranckietis, on October 23.
The close friendship between the two countries and its impact on Georgia-Lithuania political relations and cooperation in various fields were discussed by the two sides.
Zalkaliani thanked Pranckietis for the decision of the Seimas, which changed the name of Georgia “Gruzija” into the Georgian word “Sakartvelo.”
Zalkaliani said that this step was yet another demonstration of Lithuania’s respect for Georgia.
For his part, the Speaker of the Seimas expressed his appreciation for Georgia’s decision to change Lithuania's name to its native name Lietuva.
Pranckietis reaffirmed Lithuania’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which was once again reflected in the unanimously adopted resolution 10 years after the Russia-Georgia War.
The Georgian side highlighted that Lithuania was the first country to impose restrictions on persons included in the Otkhozoria-Tatunashvili list, containing 33 persons convicted or charged with grave crimes committed against the citizens of Georgia in the breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions since the 1990s.
Pranckietis said that Lithuania will continue to firmly support Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration both in bilateral and international formats. In this light, the Speaker of the Seimas also highly appraised Georgia’s EU integration roadmap - ROADMAP2E aimed to bring Georgia closer to the EU.
