Lithuania Pledges to Support Georgia

23.06.2017, Lithuania – “It is necessary to ensure that Georgia gets international support and Lithuania pledges to give this support to Georgia” - the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius said during a joint press-conference following the meeting with his Georgian counterpart, David Zalkaliani.

According to Linas Linkevičius, Lithuania firmly supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “We condemn Russia’s aggressive policy against Georgia and its military build-up in the occupied territories. We support Georgia within the international organizations” - Linas Linkevičius said.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister highly appraised Georgia’s progress on the European and Euro-Atlantic integration path – an issue that was high on the agenda of discussions during the 5th meeting of the Georgian-Lithuanian Commission on Euro-Atlantic Integration.

“Georgia has its own plan and vision, a so-called roadmap outlining its steps towards the European Union. We discussed in detail the way this vision should be brought to the attention of the EU institution and the spheres which are of priority importance and in which we can assist Georgia” - Linas Linkevičius said.

He also highlighted Georgia’s contribution towards ensuring Euro-Atlantic security.

“I’d like to highlight that with its 900 troops Georgia is one of the largest contributors to NATO. It is highly important that the Georgian population shares the values of NATO and aspires to join the Alliance”
