Vashadze Claims Authorities Are Falsifying Elections
Grigol Vashadze, United National Movement (UNM) Presidential Candidate who represents the United Opposition at the elections, says that the authorities are trying to falsify elections.
Vashadze made the statement after he cast his ballot in Kutaisi, western Georgia. According to him, the observers of the elections revealed a lot of violations during the voting.
“There are a lot of complaints and objections, because they [authorities] were prepared for falsification. As far as I know the turnout is normal,” he said.
Vashadze called on every citizen to go and vote, adding this is necessary for the better future of the country.
“The United Opposition are winning the elections. This is the reason for the hysteria of the government. I am waiting for our victory, whether it will be in the first or second round runoff,” he added.
On October 28, the last direct elections of the president were held in Georgia. Citizens had to make choice between 25 candidates.
Election precincts have been open since 8 am and they will be closed at 20:00. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes in today's elections, the second round of elections will be announced, where two candidates with the best results will be elected.
