Saakashvili and Vashadze Meet with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy
Johannes Hahn, EU-Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, met yesterday with former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and current presidential candidate Grigol Vashadze.
Saakashvili and Vashadze both belong to the United National Movement (UNM) party that was ousted in 2012 by current ruling party Georgian Dream, who back Vashadze's rival presidential candidate, self-styled independent Salome Zurabishvili.
In a post on his personal Twitter account, Hahn wrote
"Good meeting with @UNMGeorgia's @Vashadze and @SaakashviliM@EPP Summit #EPPHelsinki. Clear to the #EU that the run-off of the presidential elections in #Georgia must be free, fair, transparent and a.s.a.p."
The trio came together in Helsinki during the annual European People's Party Congress.
