High-Performing Students in Kakheti Gifted Laptops

332 students in the eastern Georgian region of Kakheti were awarded with personal computers to recognize their academic success. The event was held at Ilia Chavchavadze House Museum in Kvareli on "Iliaoba," the name day for Ilia.

The project is designed to encourage hard working students, to increase their motivation and facilitate the use of technology in the classroom. It is implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. Increasing access to modern technologies gives talented and hard-working adolescents more opportunity to succeed, says the ministry.

Project beneficiaries are public schoolchildren who, last school year, completed 7th, 8th, or 9th grade with perfect 10s in every subject.

The annual program reports higher numbers of successful students each year. It operates throughout the country, not only in Kakheti. Last year, 2,582 students qualified, and this year 2,971 students. Last year, 282 students in Kakheti were awarded. The ministry plans to continue the 'student encouragement project' in the future.
