Zubalashvili Brothers Exhibition in Tbilisi
An exhibition showcasing the unique archive of the Zubalashvili Brothers, Georgian industrialists and philanthropists run from November 1 to November 15 at the Georgian National Museum.
The Brothers Zubalashvili were successful merchants in the seventeenth century throughout Europe and Asia. They were very influential in Georgian society, establishing printing presses in Tbilisi, developing trade networks, and setting up the first industrial plants in Georgia.
The exhibition, supported by TBC, displays Dimitri Ermakovs’ photo albums of various sides of Caucasian nature and life as well as the construction of Tbilisi Public House and the State University. Books and albums about the history of Georgia, the Caucasus Civilization and its Archaeology are shown.
Visitors also have the opportunity to see Jacob Zubalashvili’s personal belongings, including works of art which he had gifted to French Museums. Jacob Zubalashvili spent the second half of his life in France. He wrote a special publication which was distributed freely to French Museums, which is part of the exhibition. Letters of correspondence between the Zubalashvili concerning the financing of Iveria and Jejili newspapers can also be seen.
Until June 2018, the important historical documents and belongings were cared for by the descendants of Petre Zubalashvili when they donated them to the Georgian National Museum.
After several months of work by the Georgian National Museum, the exhibition is now open.
