Alliance of Patriots Holds Protest Rally against UNM
Parliamentary opposition party the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia (APG) held a large-scale protest-rally on Liberty (Freedom) Square in central Tbilisi on Sunday.
The rally aimed at protesting against the former ruling party United National Movement (UNM), the member of which, Grigol Vashadze, is the presidential candidate in the November 28 runoff elections.
“No to Nazism” and “No to UNM” were the main slogans of the rally, which, according to the APG, was attended by up to 100,000 people.
The organizers of the rally called on citizens to support the ruling Georgian Dream-backed presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili.
“You all should go and vote for Zurabishvili. She should win by 80%,” one of the leaders of the party, Davit Tarkhan-Mouravi, addressed the protesters.
Another APG leader, Irma Inashvili, also delivered a speech at the rally. According to her, the former government and its leader ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili are linked with many crimes and it is unacceptable to let them return to government.
“Let us all vote for Salome Zurabishvili. Let her know that she is elected by the Georgian people, not the Georgian Dream,” Inashvili stressed.
