Interior Minister Vows Elections Will Be Peaceful
Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia says his team will do its best to ensure a peaceful, calm and democratic environment for the November 28 runoff.
He underlined that during the first round on October 28, there were fewer violent incidents compared to the previous elections.
“I would like to call on everyone to read the conclusions of the international observers made after the second round, indicating that there was a significant decline in violence. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is and will continue doing everything in its power to ensure the elections are held in a peaceful, calm and democratic environment,” the Minister said.
Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze also commented on the upcoming elections, noting that all the elections that have been held in Georgia since 2012 were democratic and were positively assessed in the reports of the international organizations.
"Since the Georgian Dream came into power in 2012, all elections have been held in compliance with standards, as reflected in the reports of relevant international organizations. This is our main achievement on the path of Georgia’s European integration. The second round will also be held in compliance with all standards, one again proving that Georgia is a democracy,” the PM told reporters in Batumi.
