Parliament Outlines Foreign Relations Strategy and Action Plan
26 November, the Parliament of Georgia Foreign Relations Committee outlined its strategy and action plan for 2018 - 2020.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia David Zalkaliani reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to develop its relations with the EU. "The current situation in Ukraine makes it even more important to join forces and do everything possible to ensure security in Georgia," he said.
The strategy and action plan consists of 5 main strategic goals: Define and facilitate the implementation of foreign policy priorities, increase the effectiveness of the committee’s oversight function, strengthen the law-making function of the committee, implement committee activities outside of the country aimed at the fulfillment of foreign policy priorities and improve communication on committee performance at the national level, and improve the organizational performance of the committee.
Compiled by the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia with support from the EU, UNDP, and IPU, the plan hopes to “solidify the country’s positions at the international level; ensure its sovereignty and territorial integrity; maintain a safe and stable environment in the country; and provide for the well-being of its citizens.”
The Committee will be one of the main pillars of foreign policy strategy until 2020. It aims to implement pre-defined priorities and develop new approaches, as well as engage in strategic communications.
