Ex-PM Garibashvili Releases Statement Regarding Elections

Former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who held the post from November 20, 2013 to December 30, 2015, took to Facebook to express his position over the November 28 runoff, which will decide who becomes the next President of Georgia - ruling Georgian Dream (GD) supported Salome Zurabishvili or the United National Movement (UNM) member, Grigol Vashadze.

Garibashvili writes it has been three years since he last participated in the political life of the country, but he says, with all his heart and mind he cares about the fate of Georgia.

The ex-PM explains that in the 2012 parliamentary elections, the founder of GD, Bidzina Ivanishvili, ended the “violent and anti-national regime of Mikheil Saakashvili”, referring to the third president of the country, who founded the UNM, which ruled Georgia for eight years.

“Today, we all must stand together to ultimately reject the traitor Saakashvili and his anti-national political force,” Garibashvili’s post reads.

He added that the so-called politicians and criminals have no right to come back to power and asked the people not to vote for the UNM candidate.
