GD: Elections Underway in Peaceful Environment
Ruling party Georgian Dream (GD) claims the run-off of the presidential elections is underway in a peaceful and calm environment.
GD member and Vice-Parliament Speaker, Tamar Chugoshvili says the representatives of the diplomatic corps can confirm that the elections are underway in a democratic environment.
Chugoshvili said the fact that the police is mobilized at the polling stations is connected to the safety of the citizens and it is not anything illegal.
The Vice-Speaker called on the GD supporters and activists to stay calm and not fall to provocations.
“It is important that the elections are calm and that the electorate has a free environment. We should not let anyone bring dissonance to the election process," she said.
Today, Georgian citizens have to make a choice between two candidates: Ruling Georgian Dream-backed Salome Zourabishvili and the candidate of the United Opposition, Grigol Vashadze.
There are 3,703 polling stations throughout the country which opened at 8am and will close at 8 pm.
