Margvelashvili: Zurabishvili Is Legitimate President
Georgia’s outgoing President Giorgi Margvelashvili, whose term officially expires on December 16, when the new president Salome Zurabishvili is inaugurated, says the Presidential elections were not smooth but Zurabishvili is a legitimate 5th president of the country.
Margvelashvili made the statements at the meeting with the Caucasus University Media School students.
“I wish new president victories for the welfare of our country. However, the elections were conducted with serious violations, with all the negative experiences in the menu that has been implemented in Georgia during generations. This is a complete collection of election violations in Georgia. But at the same time, it is a fact that, as a result of the elections, Zurabishvili received 20% more votes and there should not be any questions about the legitimacy of the results,” he stated.
The outgoing president said now one of the main challenges is how the country will continue development in terms of democracy.
“I hoped I would be able to create such an election system in Georgia, which would take the country back to the list of leaders in terms of democracy. Unfortunately, I do not see such a tendency,” he added.
