Interior Minister: Georgian Border Police to Participate in NATO Format Exercises
Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia stated that the Border Police of Georgia will be able to participate in the exercises held within NATO format since 2019.
Gakharia made the statement while delivering an annual report before the lawmakers on December 21.
The minister said one of the important steps of police reform is the border protection.
“Integrated Border Management is a major challenge for the country. We have serious support from our international partners. We hope this assistance will continue. As you know, there is a new direction and a new area - Coast Guard component,” he said.
Gakharia noted that the ministry will enter into new formats within the Black Sea security and to open a new direction of cooperation with NATO.
The minister added that the salaries of the MIA employees and the policemen will increase in 2019 too.
“We managed to increase the salaries of police officers in 2018 and this process will continue in 2019,” he added.
