‘Namme’ to Be Screened at Palm Springs International Film Festival
The film of Georgian director Zaza Khalvashi ‘Namme’ is to be screened at the Palm Springs International Film Festival which will take place from 3rd to 14th of January in California. The given work, representing a Georgian-Lithuanian co-production will be presented to almost 130 000 spectators. The film has already been assessed by audiences at the Tokyo International Film Festival, where its premiere took place, the Tbilisi International Film Festival and Göteborg Film Festival.
The film is set in the in the mountainous region of Adjara in Georgia and revolves around a family, where a girl is entrusted with overseeing the healing waters by her father. Due to a hydro power station construction nearby, major environmental risks are ever present. An unexpected development sees the spring water disappear one day, with Namme’s father remembering an old custom that says it will only return if a sacrifice is made.
The cast is made up of unknown actors. ‘Namme’ was selected among six films by Georgian directors as the country’s bid for the next Academy Awards.
