President Issues First Pardon Decrees, Releasing 3 Women

Georgian president Salome Zurabishvili has issued her first pardon decree, freeing three female inmates.

One of the women released has a young child, whilst another is pregnant, and the third is the mother of three children, reported the president’s administration.

The president’s pardon commission discusses all cases sent to the commission by inmates or their families. After discussing the cases, the commission sends a list to the president. The commission is formed of 11 individuals, including lawyers from the civil sector, the Public Defender, a representative from the Patriarchate of Georgia, and other public figures.

Zurabishvili has announced that several members of the pardon commission may be changed in the coming days.
