Salome Zurabishvili Wishes Georgians Happy Christmas
Salome Zurabishvili has wished Georgians and every Orthodox family Merry Christmas.
In Central and Eastern Europe, including Georgia, many Orthodox followers are celebrating Christmas to remember Jesus’ birth. The Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas annaully on January 7.
Today marks Salome Zurabishvili’s first Christmas as President of Georgia. She wished those celebrating today a Happy Christmas, tweeting “to every Georgian and every #Orthodox family in the world, very Merry Christmas. Today is a celebration of truth, love, kindness, a memory to bring light in the world. I wish you all well-being and love for your families and our country.”
Christmas is being celebrated across Georgia. A special liturgy was held in Tbilisi’s Holy Trinity Cathedral at midnight on 6 January, whilst several streets were closed today due to the Christmas Alilo march.
