Mamuka Bakhtadze on Aggressive Steps of Russia
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Mamuka Bakhtadze has made a statement regarding the actions of Russia taken towards Georgia at the World Economic Forum 2019, in Davos, Switzerland. “Russia makes aggressive steps and continues to occupy 20% of the territory of Georgia, while we respond with the consolidation of democracy and speeding up with sustainable development on this painful challenge”- said the Georgian official in the interview with CNBC.
During the discussion ‘Eurasia in new global context’, Georgian Prime Minister focused on the importance of the choice of Georgia to integrate into the European family and said integration into NATO represents one of the major aspirations for Georgia and is supported by the Georgian population. He also mentioned the steps made by Georgia for past 5 years, forwards to the integration into NATO. In addition, Bakhtadze noted that the Georgian integration into NATO is in the interests of the Caucasus region in order to become more stable.
“We believe that our aspiration to become a member of the European Union and NATO serves regional interests because it will help the region to use its economic potential,” Georgian PM said.
