PACE to Russia: Stop the Artificial Barriers on Georgia’s Occupied Territories

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has called on the Russian Federation to immediately stop the erection of barbed wire fences and artificial barriers along the occupation line with Georgia’s breakaway regions Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The information was released by the Parliament of Georgia and it reads that the PACE supported the amendments proposed by the Georgian delegation, according to which, PACE urges Russia to immediately stop the erection of barbed wire fences and artificial barriers along the occupation line and reiterates support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.

The document calls for the protection of the norms and principles of international law.

Deputy Parliament Speaker of Georgia, Tamar Chugoshvili said that by adopting the above-mentioned resolution, the Council of Europe once more expressed its support towards the issue of Georgia’s territorial integrity.

"This statement is important because by this resolution, the PACE and the Council of Europe, once again reiterate their attitude towards the occupation of Georgia and express support to our country's territorial integrity,” Chugoshvili said.
