Minister: Georgia’s Visa-liberalization with EU Not to Be Suspended

Georgia’s Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani says that there is no risk that Georgia’s visa-liberalization with the European Union will be suspended.

Zalkaliani made the statement in Davos, adding the country will not face any problems as it fully fulfills the obligations undertaken by Georgia towards the European Commission.

"Very clear statements were made by the President of the European Commission during his meeting with the Georgian President in Brussels, and we also have very serious and clear indications from our partners that Georgia is not in danger regarding the suspension of visa liberalization," he said.

The minister noted that in the last report of the European Commission, there were no indicators that the country faces any risks or problems in the future.

“The report said that Georgia is doing its best to fulfill all the instructions of the European Commission and the European Union," he added.

Zalkaliani noted that the government of Georgia is carrying out all proper measures to reduce illegal migration from Georgia to the EU.

“The asylum requests of Georgian citizens will be rejected by many countries because they put Georgia in the list of safe countries,” he said.

“The Georgian government values this achievement of visa-liberalization because it is not only a technical decision from the EU but a significant political message that brings us closer to Europe, "said David Zalkaliani.
