Nobel Prize-winning Writer Mario Vargas Llosa Will Visit Georgia

Mario Vargas Llosa, the winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature, will visit Georgia in September to learn about Georgian culture and arts.

The Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport announced that the internationally acclaimed author’s visit at a press conference on Thursday. The Ministry and the Georgian National Book Centre will host Vargas Llosa during his 5-day stay.

Vargas Llosa, one of the most significant Latin American writers, has been a prominent literary figure since the 1960s. He wrote novels such as ‘The Time of the Hero’, ‘The Green House’, and ‘Conversation in the Cathedral. His works focus on Peruvian society, as well as global issues like nationalism. He has also written for newspapers such as El Pais.

Vargas Llosa was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize for his “cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual's resistance, revolt, and defeat.”

His stay in Georgia will be his first trip to the South Caucasus.
