"Pictures Brought to Life" Contest Celebrates Pirosmani

Niko Pirosmani, one of Georgia's greatest artists, died in 1918 at the age of 55. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the year of his death, Georgia's Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport held a contest for students in 7th-12th grades called "Pictures Brought to Life."

The contest encouraged students to rethink some of Pirosmani's most iconic paintings, and the artist's life itself, and depict them in alternative ways. Students created animated video clips - a few even using claymation - that brought Pirosmani's art and the story of its creation to life.

The winning students' work can be viewed here.
