Tbilisi Mayor Meets with EU Director-General for Mobility and Transport
On January 30, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze met with EU Director-General for Mobility and Transport, Henrik Hololei.
The meeting primarily concerned Tbilisi transport policy.
Kaladze introduced the city's public transportation policy to Hololei. They also discussed major infrastructural projects planned by the municipality. Kaladze noted that City Hall is open to considering recommendations from partners on all the upcoming projects.
"We have ambitious plans that we are going to implement and they are absolutely realistic. We have achieved the fact that the budget of the capital this year exceeds one billion lari. Tbilisi City Hall works in many directions, among them one of the most important is transport policy. We are trying to increase access to public transport. By the end of 2019, we will replace the old fleet with new, modern buses. We are also working on modernization of the subway, adding new cars to reduce the wait time. Rehabilitation of metro stations is planned. All of our work takes into account our partners' recommendations. In the transport direction, we are working based on the research of French company Sitra," said Kaladze.
For his part, Hololei noted that Tbilisi City Hall has a very ambitious agenda and the enthusiasm of the capital makes the city more attractive and welcoming. He also expressed his satisfaction over the plan to completly replace the city's bus fleet.
The meeting was also attended by Tbilisi Vice-Mayor Irakli Khmaladze and Deputy Mayor Maia Bitadze.
