Stoltenberg: NATO to Continue Supporting Georgia
Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, stated in Brussels that the Alliance will continue supporting Georgia on its path to membership of the organization.
Stoltenberg made the comment after signing an accession protocol with North Macedonia.
He said that the historic day confirmed that NATO's door is open to countries that are in line with NATO standards.
“NATO's door is open to the countries which satisfy NATO standards, respect NATO values, the supremacy of law, democracy and individual liberties. We are glad about what we see in Georgia. We appreciate Georgia’s efforts to carry out reforms, strengthen defense institutions and ensure transparency,” Stoltenberg said.
He added the Alliance remains committed to the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Georgia will become a NATO member. He also said that NATO was grateful to Georgia for contributing to NATO peacekeeping missions and operations.
