Parliament Speaker: GD Is “United”
Georgia’s Parliament Speaker and the member of the ruling party, Georgian Dream (GD), Irakli Kobakhidze claims the majority is “united and firm” and continues working as usual.
“The team is united and firm and stable and we will continue working so,” Kobakhidze said.
The comment came after the recent reports that some more MPs might quit the GD, after Eka Beselia, Levan Gogichaishvili and Gedevan Popkhadze.
Since the three prominent members of the ruling party quit, GD lost its constitutional majority in the legislative body, as it was left 111 chairs and 113 is necessary to have a constitutional majority in the 150-member parliament.
Mirian Tsiklauri is another MP who may leave the parliamentary majority but he has yet to make any official statement.
Parliament Vice-Speaker and member of the GD, Gia Volsky says he does not expect more MPs to leave the majority.
“The recent developments in the majority are normal and they do not indicate anything new. Some people have different views, some other political aims, so it is a normal process,” he said.
Moreover, after the recent developments in the GD, the party Chair and Founder Bidzina Ivanishvili held a meeting with the party on February 25, which lasted for five hours.
No comments were made to reporters after the meeting.
