327 Detained Illegally in Occupation Zones from 2017 - 19
Occupying forces in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) detailed 327 Georgian citizens for ‘illegally’ crossing the border from 2017 - 2019.
The Georgian State Security Service has released a report stating that 242 individuals were detained for ‘illegally’ crossing the border between Georgia and Tskhinvali. Occupying forces detained 16 people in 2019 so far.
85 individuals were detained for crossing the illegal border between Abkhazia and Georgia, of which 4 occurred in 2019.
Occupying forces released most detainees after they paid a fine.
Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru, and Syria are the only countries who recognize Abkhazia and Tskhinvali as independent states. The rest of the world believes these regions to be illegally occupied by Russia.
