Congressmen: Funds Needed to React to Russia’s Occupation of Georgia
The US Congress published a draft-bill 'Defending American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act' (DASKA) on its web-page. The draft mentions Georgia.
The bill, introduced by a bipartisan group of US senators, contains new sanctions against Russia over its alleged meddling in US elections and military interventions in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova.
The bill reads that funds should be allocated to Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine for a reaction to the destabilization caused by Russia’s military intervention, occupation outcomes and humanitarian crises.
According to it, the financial resources should be also used to support civil society, media, and non-governmental organizations in the fight against Russian propaganda as well as in the struggle against corruption, cyber-attacks, and improvement of the supremacy of law and election mechanisms.
The DASKAA bill was introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham, Bob Menendez, Cory Gardner, Ben Cardin, John McCain and Jeanne Shaheen on August 2, 2018.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the sponsors, called it the “sanctions bill from hell”.
