Georgian Authors at London & Leipzig Book Fairs
Georgian authors and publishers have gained incredible success across the globe recently with their works, and they continue to do so. On March 12-14, the book fair in London is to host outstanding pieces of the Georgian literature and introduce them to the wider audience at the venue of Olympia.
At the Georgian stand, literature enthusiasts will have a chance to discover authentic Georgian prose and poetry, delve into the most distinguished examples and explore the history of the unique Georgian alphabet, one among the world’s writing systems.
The project ‘Georgia Made by Characters’ will serve as the main theme of the stand, which was launched with the aim to represent Georgia in its very best way, as the alphabet is one of the most significant parts of the Georgian culture. The same concept was used at the world’s largest book fair- Frankfurt, where Georgia was presented as the Guest of Honor in 2018.
The London Book Fair is to bring together over 1,500 publishers and literary agencies from 60 countries, presenting their products in 25 different pavilions.
Within the scope of the fair, the President and CEO of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Jurgen Boss, will host a joint reception along with the Georgian National Book Center in London.
After the United Kingdom, Georgian authors will travel to Germany to attend the Leipzig Book Fair and introduce the country’s literature to German bookworms between 21-24 March. Diana Anphimiadi, Aka Morchiladze, Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili, Aleko Shughladze, Dato Robakidze, Irma Taverlidze, Gaga Nakhutsrishvili and Nato Ingorokva are among those authors who will represent and promote Georgia’s works in Leipzig.
The Director of the Museum of Literature, Lasha Bakradze, and literary critic Zaal Andornikashvili, will speak about the most outstanding works of Georgian hagiography and German editions of works by Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, an 18th century Georgian writer and diplomat, within the framework of the Leipzig Fair.
Those who prefer to soak up the atmosphere of Georgian poetry will be given a chance to attend readings of works by Besik Kharanauli and Rati Amaglobeli.
