Foreign Minister: Georgians Will Not Get Asylum in EU

Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Zalkaliani says Georgian citizens will not get asylum in European Union countries because Georgia is regarded as a safe country.

The Minister made the statement in response to a number of Georgians trying to seek asylum in Spain and France.

“Our society and population must understand that Georgia is on the list of safe countries in the EU countries. This means that none of the applicants will be granted asylum,” he underlined.

Zalkaliani also said that the ministry responds to any message and information relating to the increased number of asylum-seekers in the EU, adding Georgian consuls are in constant contact with immigration services.
