Armenian and Georgian PMs Hold Second Informal Meeting on Sunday

The Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia held an informal meeting on Sunday March 24 in Yenokavan village close to the Georgian-Armenian border at Tavush Marzh, a fast-developing tourist destination.

According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister of Armenia’s press office, the PMs discussed various Armenian-Georgian relation issues and other topics of mutual interest.

Stressing the importance of Armenian-Georgian relations, Nikol Pashinyan and Mamuka Bakhtadze expressed confidence that further cooperation will promote multifaceted exchanges between the two neighbors in a number of areas. The leaders of both countries emphasized the importance of frequent informal meetings, stated the press release.

This was the second informal meeting of the two PMs this year and the first since Pashinyan’s state visit to Iran, where he suggested an agreement with Iranian authorities regarding the potential transiting of Iranian gas through Armenia to Georgia.

After the Armenian Velvet Revolution, Armenia has boosted its relations with Georgia. On May 3, when it was already evident that Pashinyan would be elected as the Prime Minister of Armenia, he met with the Ambassador of Georgia Giorgi Saganelidze to introduce him to the foreign political agenda of the revolutionary movement.

On May 11, days after being elected PM of Armenia, Pashinyan initiated a phone conversation with the Georgian PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

Later on May 30, Pashinyan made his first state visit to Georgia thus underlining the importance of Armenian-Georgian relations.

Even before coming to power, Pashinyan has repeatedly stated that he gives special priority to strengthening ties with neighboring Georgia and Iran as these two countries play a special role in Armenian foreign relations.
