NATO Ships Dock at Poti Port

4 NATO military ships have visited Poti Black Sea Port on Monday. Assigned to the Standing Nato Maritime Group Two (SNMG2), they arrived in Poti for a 4-day port of call.

The ships are HNLMS Evertsen of the Royal Netherlands Navy, BGS Drazki of the Bulgarian Navy, TCG Yildirim of the Turkish Navy and ROS Regele Ferdinand of the Romanian Naval Forces.

Two Georgian coast guard island-class patrol boats will take part in sea manoeuvres with the SNMG2, aimed to improve the interoperability between NATO forces and Georgian crews. There will also be official meetings and cultural activities.

Alexandre Motserelia, governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti said that the event underlines Georgia’s asspirations to join NATO and are also vital for Georgia’s security.

The group are scheduled to leave Poti on April 4.
